March 1

March 1st, 2008 by Joyce

We have lots of seeds started now under lights in the house and the cabbage seedlings are already out in the green house.

We have more baby lambs and still more to go. They are kind of trickling in this year. They grow so fast and are bounding around jumping straight up in the air on their springy legs.

With the increasing day length egg production is increasing and nearly everyone is receiving their eggs now. One of my Delaware hens is already broody! I told her it’s much too early. I want her laying right now, not setting.

I’ve spent two full days pruning the fruit trees visualizing a fruitful year. I also cut down a lot of poison ivy in our row of windbreak shrubs. It’s too bad I can’t let the sheep graze there; they really enjoy poison ivy and are much better at eradicating it than I am. Next week I’ll begin pruning the blackberries.
